DistroTube (05.06.2022) NixOS recently had a new release, and it’s a big one! Now, NixOS comes with an easy-to-use graphical installer (calamares). This could be a real game changer because the traditional NixOS installation is a barrier to entry for novice NixOS users. So I’m going to try out the new NixOS calamares installer and […]

DistroTube The YouTube search results are broken. When you search on YouTube, one man’s auto-generated spam videos keep coming up over and over again. Why? Because he has uploaded 2 million videos to YouTube, averaging a new video every few seconds.

DistroTube Many Vim users find Doom Emacs overwhelming at first, because of the orgy of documentation. There is so much to learn! Don’t worry. You don’t need to learn everything on Day One. If you already have a strong foundation with Vim commands, then you are almost ready for Doom Emacs. But here’s a few […]

DistroTube (26.04.2022) Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS has landed! Pop is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution that sports a really nice GNOME desktop environment with many custom modifications created by the Pop team. In fact, Pop might be the best GTK-based desktop Linux distro available right now. Move over, Ubuntu. There’s a new king. DistroTube (19.10.2020) AppImages are self-contained applications which can simply be downloaded, made executable, and t run on almost any GNU/Linux distribution. Their ease-of-use has won me over. DistroTube I see it. You see it. Sometimes your favorite video creators on YouTube all of sudden disappear. What happened? Most of the time, those creators have been temporarily or permanently banned by YouTube. Mental Outlaw is under a temporary ban right now. A few months ago, the Linux Experiment was permanently banned but thankfully […]

DistroTube (30.03.2022) About a month ago, I suddenly had the urge to learn how to create my own GTK application. In a community poll, I asked my viewers if I should do this using Haskell, and a large portion of the community wanted me to do it in Python instead. So ultimately, I decided to […]

DistroTube A couple of days ago, Linux Mint released their latest Linux Mint Debian Edition version 5 codenamed “Elsie.” LMDE is Linux Mint’s hedge in case anything ever happens to Ubuntu that would force Mint to base off of another distro. Maybe, they should go ahead and make the move now. REFERENCED: ► https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4287

DistroTube (19.03.2022) In my last video on AppImages, I got a lot of comments about how AppImages can’t be updated. Well, that is true and false. AppImages don’t come with there own package management tool like Snaps and Flatpaks, but there are third-party tools available that help you update your AppImages.

DistroTube (02.06.2020) Some of the viewers have asked me to take a closer look at Haskell since I’ve done so much content regarding Xmonad, a tiling window manager written in Haskell. Well, I’m not a programmer by trade. And I certainly wouldn’t say I “know” Haskell. But I, a non-programmer, will attempt to cover some […]
